1995 Jaguar XJS V12 Convertible
Offered for consignment, this 1995 XJS with a title verified 46,890 actual miles and according to Nigel Thorley's 2005 Jaguar XJS book this car is 1 of 73 V12 XJS cars assembled between 1993 and 1996. It's been owned by our consignor since 1999 and used almost exclusively for ice cream runs! As a result, it remained in very good condition and of course, is the right color!
Exterior
This Jaguar is finished in British Racing Green, now an iconic color on this car's sleek body with a muscular stance, often seen on expensive European cars that are capable of high speeds. Straight panels and good gaps are noted as well as European headlights upfront, bordered on the bottom by body matched bumper cover with chrome header that houses headlight washers providing slight protrusions. The chrome is excellently preserved here and on the back bumper. Smoked tail lights span almost the entire width of the car, breaking only to allow a license plate, topped by a rear deck wing and above twin chrome exhaust tips. 16-inch wheels are all around and they would benefit from a refinishing. The tan canvas top is in good condition and houses a glass window. Imperfections included some faded emblems, lots of chin scrapes and a cracked piece, and scuffs on the left and right side of the rear bumper cover.
Interior
A swing of the doors reveals Barley colored leather on the door panels. There is a veneer strip near the upper sill of each door, yes real wood, looks great and the driver's door shows some wear. Other areas of the dash that have veneer are intact and nicely preserved and mix well with the light leather. The front bucket seats are in nice shape in Barley leather with tan around the edges and around the insert up to the headrest. The driver's seat shows wear with cracks and fading of the leather, while the rear 2+2 seats could use a good detail but are intact. A black leather wrapped steering wheel shows minimal wear and leads to a woodgrain backed gauge assemblage with black faced easy to read dials. Burlwood also dominated the dash and center console where an onboard computer presides over an AM/FM/Cassette radio. This waterfalls onto the center console where a wood handled shifter is perfectly positioned for the relaxed arm perched on the armrest. There's some cracking in the laminate and the switch panel is loose, just below the shifter. Plush tan carpet blankets the floor and is in good condition.
Drivetrain
Driver conditions are found as we lift the bonnet forward from the cowl and find the 6.0 liter V12 engine fed petrol by electronic fuel injection and sporting a 4L80E 4-speed automatic transmission on back. 3.54 gears at the rear axle put the power to the pavement and power disc brakes are found front and rear. Visually the V12 fills every niche of the engine bay with hoses, wires, fuel rails, and the sheer real estate the engine and its intake occupy.
Undercarriage
Underneath we note some surface rust, some pitted, but structurally sound metal makes up the unibody, and floor pans as well as the rockers. Independent suspension is on all 4 corners, coil springs in front and coil overs in the rear. Dual exhaust handles the exhale and connects to original equipment mufflers and all is looking good in this neighborhood. We note some oil on the oil pan and flywheel cover.
Drive-Ability
This car started right up, and we were off to the test loop. It has great rail like handling, great performance on the acceleration and handling front, and all in all very comfortable and a responsive car to drive. V12 are so smooth when running right and we're always impressed with them. Those are the hits. For misses, we note the A/C is not working, the reverse lights are not lighting up, and the driver's side power mirror has no left or right movement. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
A cat with this V12 XJS, plenty of conveniences and stunning leather and burl. Nothing says power, prestige and prominence like a Jaguar, especially a convertible and this one hits all 3 marks. Coupled in the sleek body design being a sure thing for the Jag aficionados, and this one in good condition still has lots of life left to go find the nearest country road and play!
