    hield shaped patch is approximately 2 3/4 inches tall &  approximately 2 7/8 inches wide.
    The Crest is Henry Hudson's ship "Half Moon" in which he discovered the Hudson River in 1609.
    The National Defense Act of 1916 provided authority to organize “State” forces as a replacement National Guard units. On 3 Aug 1917, the Governor of NY,  organized a State Military Force known as the New York Guard under the Home Guard Act of 1917.  The New York Guard is a state volunteer force which augments /supports the NY National Guard with manpower & skills.
    New York Guard members are a volunteer, unpaid force which serves at the direction of the Governor. They assist the National Guard in planning, training for & executing state emergency support & disaster missions & provide legal & medical pre-deployment assistance to the National Guard units.  Members of the New York Guard assist National Guard Soldiers to serve the people of New York as members of Guard Joint Task Forces which respond to state natural disasters, state emergencies & state security requirements
