Citlali was founded in Guadalajara in 1968 by native, Francisco Sánchez Sahagún, who is a second generation jeweler. He has studied
architecture, painting, sculpture, jewelry and was honored with a scholarship to study Foreign Trade in Rotterdam, Holland.
Sánchez
has received several awards throughout his career such as the prestigious Jalisco Award in Jewelry Design in 2000. His designs are inspired by pre-Hispanic codices and Mexican folklore and
since the beginning
he’s
worked with a group of silversmiths committed to the preservation of traditional craftsmanship.
Joyas Citlali, which began as a small workshop,
has now grown to become city's leading jeweler and Francisco’s work has been exhibited all over the world.
A blending of contemporary Hispanic culture and Aztec iconography, it is a modern story within an ancient one. After 50 years, the brand is renewed under the creative direction of his daughter, Rosana, but the Maestro
still oversees the business and designs his own pieces.
