    Description

Thanks for stopping by to take a look at our 1975 Palm Beach GMC Motorhome.   This one is special.  Painted in Porsche "Guards Red" and being a rare GMC Motorhome, she draws attention.  On the road or in the park, this coach will draw admiration as you grace American roads once again.  Summer is here and the road beckons!
For those unfamiliar with the GMC Motorhome, it was the only motorhome ever conceived, designed and built by an automobile manufacturer. It was designed to be “car- like” with front wheel drive and cutting edge with air spring suspension and wide curved glass. An aluminum skin was bonded to a gel coated fiberglass outer shell.  A low step in and reasonable 26 foot and 23 foot sizes made it a family favorite.
Slab sided box motorhomes on truck frames were (are) no match.  That being said, this is not a new, perfect motorhome. She has weathered 46 years incredibly well but a new Tesla, she is not.
GMC Motorhomes of this vintage seem to fall into 3 categories:
Show Queen, They are expensive and rare. They don’t get used much.
Loved, These were enjoyed and maintained to a high quality standard.
Neglected, They are often low mileage, stored outside for decades and in need of tens of thousands of dollars worth of repairs just to be roadworthy.
The Show Queens are still rare, Loved coaches are few and far between and the vast majority fit the neglected category.
We think this Palm Beach fits in the Loved category.  While we don’t know the previous owner, we can see that regular maintenance has been done and one of the most important factors is that we’d bet this girl lived inside a nice warm garage or warehouse. She just doesn’t seem to show the wear of an outside life.  The paint easily buffs to a nice gloss.
    Here’s what we see:
    Exterior.
Porsche “Guards Red” Paint is beautiful and polishes up excellently. Minor touch ups have been done over time. Silver accent stripe is painted, not a decal.
California Blue plates.  Issued in 1975 to this coach. She's a true California native, from day one. The faded numbers on the plates shown in the pictures have been sympathetically restored with hand painted yellow digits.
26’ side bath model. In GMC floor plan lingo it’s a 26-2 with the rear Gaucho Bed combo. AKA, the one everyone wants to sleep 6 comfortably.
Awning - Nice color match and the feet will detach and mount to the campsite ground if preferred
T skirts. These cover the airbags between the rear wheels for a sleeker look.
Alcoa 16” alloy wheels with locking lugs and keys. (Do your research! You want 16" wheels because you can run modern radial tires. Stock wheels are 16.5" and typically use bias ply truck tires. The ride quality and modern materials outweigh the expense and noise of bias ply tires form yesteryear.
These Radial Tires are OK for your stationary display. (Tiny home, office, Air B&B or extra bedroom usage)
Tires should be replaced before on road use. (An 0 tire allowance is included in the Buy It Now price)
    Nice glass throughout.
    Nice Chrome bumpers
Rare GMC Spare tire cover is color matched and now has reflective GMC logo.
    New power roof vent
TV/radio antenna mount (wired into the passenger side upper cabinet)
Aluminum Ladder and roof rail option
Class IV Trailer hitch is frame mounted not bumper mounted. Hardwired trailer pigtail
    Engine
455 V8 Oldsmobile Tornado Front Wheel Drive
    Runs nice
    Carburetor rebuilt
Dual 25 gallon fuel tanks (have been serviced)
    Transmission
    Drives and shifts nice.
    Braking, Steering
Drives, runs and stops well. Steering gearbox just resealed
    Air Ride
Airbags appear to be just a few years old and work well.
    Glass
The glass is in good condition.  No cracks or breaks. All windows operate properly. Screens are in place.
    Interior
From the Captain’s position you’ll notice:
New upholstery in great condition. Two tone Gray with red accents and piping carry the outer paint scheme throughout the cabin.
    Swivel front bucket seats
allow the pilot and co-pilot to join the in-cabin fun.
