Hilario Lopez
: Lopez was a famed Maestro Silversmith who was employed by Margot de Taxco
(Margot van Voorhies Carr
)
for quite a number of years. Many silversmiths who worked for Margot, including Sigi Pineda, Hilario Lopez, Miguel Melendez, Melesio Rodriguez, and Jaime Quiroz, eventually opened their own workshops. She closed her Taller in 1976 due to financial difficulties, gave her
molds and dies to her silversmiths to satisfy debts, and Hilario was one such recipient.
Lopez worked under his own name from 1978-80 and skillfully executed some of Margot de Taxco’s finest designs during this short period of time. His renditions are impeccably finished, with masterful repoussage, attention to detail and good weight albeit not as hefty as Margot’s originals. He used the Eagle 3 assay mark and is featured in the Little Book of Mexico Silver Trade and Hallmarks (2006 edition) on page 96. Margot's necklace & earrings may be seen on p.170 in Morrill's Mexican Silver book.

This
will not work with a small wrist
as the spring hinge is not as taut as it once was and doesn't snap shut all the way. There will always be a gap when worn which is fine for larger wrists, but it excludes smaller ones which would require a tighter fit. I’ve a 6.5” wrist and when on, the bracelet has nearly a 1/2” Gap where the 2 sides would meet thus adding to the inner circumference of 7”, so it’s a very roomy fit, but looks great on.

overall with very minor wear considering the age of these pieces. Beautiful Patina on both though the bracelet has been polished at some point by a previous owner. There is polish build-up in places on the front in the beaded sections (seen on very close inspection) & the details will be much more evident when this is removed. Personally, I would have this desirable piece cleaned by a jeweler. The earrings were purchased separately & have no build-up.
