    Description

Named after Max Leichtlin. Incredibly elegant and native to Japan, this lily produces down-facing, recurved, blooms resembling tiger lilies. The 2" yellow flowers are flecked with burgundy-purple dots. A stem may produce up to 20 blooms. This fast grower can reach 5' tall in just its first year and, if left undisturbed, can reach up to 7' in a few years. In fact, the longer Lilies have to establish the blooms they produce. It can be and often is difficult in the garden if drainage conditions are not to its liking. A late bloomer, it requires a light, but deep, well drained soil that is rich in humus.
An excellent perennial bargain. 12/14 cm bulbs; 2-3 per sq. ft.; zones 3-10.
