DESIGNER/COMPANY/LOCATION:
Nestor
is/was a skilled and versatile Taxco, Mexico designer about whom little is known. His early work is from at least the 1940s and continues into the ‘50s.
He seems to have tried his hand at several styles including the combination of metales casados and mozaico in his
fusion of ancient Mexican cultures.
His modernist jewelry is always wrought in thick gauge sterling sheet and quite often adorned with impressive gemstones.

Rare
Color Change Fluorite Gemstones. *
This gem changes color depending upon the light source. May appear Amethyst in color or a Violet Blue shade and often has flashes in the Pink spectrum. Under longwave UV light
the fluorite fluoresces
a reddish-orange color as seen in the photo 11. The color is deeper in a completely dark room, but I shot this in the daytime in my studio with blinds closed and the black light effect is not as strong.
Amethyst gemstone does not fluoresce
, by the way.
~ Red/Orange fluorescing Fluorite is extremely uncommon and known from only four localities worldwide. The only mine in Mexico is the Ojuela Mine in Mapimi (Durango) where a
very small percentage
of Purple Fluorite shows a rich, reddish fluorescence under longwave UV light. The color can vary from red to orange. This is a
very rare
and unusual response for fluorite.

~ Necklace: 50g, 16” Choker length, Focal Section is 1.5” x 1.25”, Gem is 17mm x 13mm & 5mm depth and the dendritics site calculates the Carat Weight as 6.27, Secure Tongue & Groove Box Clasp
~ Earrings: 17.8g, 1.25” x 1”, Gems are 13mm x 11mm & 5mm depth and the Carat Weight is calculated at 4.11 carats each, Screw Backs
~ Stamps: 925 (silver purity), Nestor, Hecho en (made in) Taxco, Eagle 3 (Taxco registration mark)
~ Some of the photos were shot under 3200k incandescent tungsten bulbs, others in 5000k LED light (daylight bulbs), and some were taken in a combo of both lights. As an amateur, I had a difficult time capturing the Blue especially because of the lighting I had to use to get the photos to come out, but you can see flashes of it best in photos 3-5.
