This worldwide famous silver shop was located in Taxco, Mexico and established in 1956 by
Pedro Perez, former shop manager at William Spratling’s
Taller de Las Delicias
. During the 1960s, Rancho Alegre became one of the largest retailers of Mexican silver. It served as an outlet for many of the finest designers and silversmiths with Miguel Garcia Martinez as the primary, in-house artisan until the shop closed its doors in 1985.

~ c.1960s Handwrought Bracelet & Earrings Set
~ Open Back, Prong Set Purple Spinel Gemstones *Tested with my Presidium II. Spinel gems were not widely used or in high demand in the mid-century and were thus very affordable. That has changed though, and the gemstone is now quite popular in today’s market. Spinel gems are also very hard/durable and register an 8 on MOH’s scale. *Note: the gems flash more pink under my bright incandescent studio lights, but appear more purple in ambient lighting.
~ Bracelet: 5 linked, Openwork Panels, each with a Gemstone; Secure Tongue & Groove Clasp; Safety Chain; 6.75” Wrist Size; 3/4” wide; 35.9 grams
~ Earrings: 1 Gemstone each; 1-3/8” L x 5/8” W; Screw Closures; 13.3 grams *May be converted to pierced.
~ Stamps (same on bracelet & 1 earring): Rancho Alegre, 1032 (design #), Sterling, Mexico
~ I used 3 online Carat Weight Calculators and these are the results…Bracelet: 5 gems measuring 8mm round & 5mm depth each. Carat weights were 2.01, 2.01, & 2.02 so I went with 2.00ct for a Total Carat Weight of 10. ERs: 7mm round & 4mm depth each; Calculations yielded 1.18, 1.24, & 1.35 so to be on the safe side, I went with 1.2ct for a Total Carat Weight of 2.4.

Vintage condition
with minor surface wear considering the age! The Gems are all in great shape with no chips. This piece has obviously been kept very well polished over the many decades, so very little patina present. Please view all photos to judge for yourself.
