TURQUOISE AND BLACK GUILLOCHE ENAMEL EARRINGS

Margot Van Voorhies Carr arrived in Taxco, Mexico in 1937 where she met, and soon after, married Antonio Castillo of Los Castillo.  The firm employed her designs and many of Los Castillo’s early pieces bear Margot’s distinctive look.  Her marriage ended in 1948 and Margot set up her own workshop and retail outlet.  To execute her designs, she employed a number of talented silversmiths.  Margo was actively producing jewelry until her death in 1974.
This is truly a great looking pair of her turquoise blue and black enamel earrings.  The style and design is indicative of her early work.  The earrings have the vintage screw-back closures.  The hallmark is noted, yet part is cut off due to space on the back of the earrings.  The model number is apparent.  These earrings stand out when worn.
